Uniforms of the American Revolution, the short version.

The American Army struggled to keep its troops in any sort of uniform during the revolution.  Units were frequently described as in tatters, and not just at Valley Forge.  The lack of steady supplies led to constant improvisation among the units in the army.  Appearance of the same unit could vary quite a bit from year to year depending on supplies.  Units from the same state could have radically different uniforms even if they were created at the same time.  There are many good books on uniforms during the Revolution and if you are interested in more detail, Email me and I will send you my recomendations.  If you click on the thumbnails below, they will take you to a larger image and a description of the uniform.    The images are reduced in detail for the web.  I will add more units as I get photos and permissions.  When I get a chance I will add British units of the American Revolution and units from other historical periods.
